Skin Types and Conditions

Updated: Jul 7, 2019

If you are just entering the world of skincare, the first question you should ask yourself is what type of skin do I have? There are only 3 types of skin: Oily, Dry and Normal, or combination of any of these 3 (like dry/normal cheeks and oily T-zone). Skin type is genetically determined. Normal skin type has perfect balance of moisture and oil (lucky you, if you have normal skin type). Oily skin type produces more sebum than normal skin type and often looks shiny and greasy, more likely to have large pores, acne, blackheads, inflamed painful pimples, but it also has more moisture and ages slower. If you have oily skin you should use products that regulate sebum production. Dry skin type is the opposite and produces very little sebum which can result in cracks, pain, flakiness, itchiness, redness, and premature aging. People with dry skin type need to use facial oils or heavy oil-based skincare products to maintain healthy skin and avoid skin problems. Oily skin type might become drier with age, because our sebaceous glands produce less oil with time. Skin conditions on the other hand might appear and disappear. The most confusing condition is dehydration, a lot of people confuse dry skin type with dehydration. Dehydrated skin lacks moisture and when people with oily skin start experiencing dehydration, they get confused and say: my skin is oily and dry at the same time. Well it’s not, it’s still oily but temporarily dehydrated, it can happen because of the environmental conditions (more dehydrated in the winter and back to normal in the summer), hormonal changes, autoimmune diseases, using skincare not suitable for your skin type, etc. In this case people would use both: products to regulate sebum production and moisturizing products to restore hydration. Dry skin can be dehydrated as well, in this case you would need to use skincare products to restore moisture as well as facial oils.

Other common skin conditions include: acne, hyperpigmentation, sensitivity, blemishes, aging, rosacea, eczema, photoaging. ..... #skincare #skincareblogger #skincaretips #esthetician #healthyskin #blog #facial #beautycare
