Why you should exfoliate your skin on a regular basis?

Updated: Jan 9, 2020

Exfoliation is a great way to get smooth, glowing skin. It helps to removes dead skin cells on the skin's outermost layer. There are 2 types of exfoliants: Mechanical exfoliation (physical scrubbing of the skin with an abrasive like body scrubs, polishes, loofahs, brushes etc.) Chemical exfoliation (application of chemical peel solution that induces a controlled injury to the skin) Advantage of mechanical exfoliation is that you are able to regulate the strength of exfoliation by scrubbing harder on rougher areas or over fine lines and wrinkles, and apply less pressure on more sensitive parts. Chemical Acid solutions on the other hand are specifically formulated to help treat certain conditions like acne, rosacea, melasma etc. and have better antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. ..... Exfoliating on a regular basis helps to maintain healthy skin, increase blood circulation, accelerate cellular renewal and reveal fresh skin cells. It also evens out skin tone, smoothes the skin and leaves your skin feeling polished and soft. Exfoliating your entire body can help prevent body acne, increase blood circulation and avoid ingrown hairs. Body scrubs help reduce the appearance of dark spots and large pores. ..... It’s recommended to exfoliate your face 1-2 times a week if you have normal/oily skin type, and once in 10-14 days if you have dry skin type. Use more gentle exfoliants if you have sensitive skin. You can use body scrubs 2-3 times a week or more often on rougher parts of your body like feet. ..... It’s very important not to over-exfoliate. Over-exfoliation can lead to dryness, chronic skin irritations and inflammation. .... After removing dead skin cells skincare ingredients are absorbed better into the skin, so it’s very beneficial to apply your favorite serums and moisturizers after exfoliating. ..... ⚠️ If you have a pre-existing condition such as acne, make sure you are exfoliating around any inflamed areas, breakouts or open sores. Any scrub you use could irritate those spots, so work around them. ..... ⚠️ Do not exfoliate: • If you have a sunburn • After surgery • After shaving • After using skin lightening products • Before or after chemical body peels • On or near a bug bite • If you have a rash or other skin conditions, a scrub might further irritate your skin .....
