MICRONEEDLING

Collagen Induction Therapy

Microneedling (also known as collagen induction therapy) is a safe, minimally invasive procedure that uses small, sterile needles to puncture the skin. The purpose of treatment is to generate new collagen and skin tissue for smoother, firmer and more toned skin. Micro-injuries stimulate skin’s natural wound healing processes, resulting in cell turnover and increased collagen and elastin production which is the key to youthful-looking skin.

Microneedling has been shown to reduce the visibility of acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles, diminish hyperpigmentation and large pores, improve skin tone and texture, as well as rejuvenates skin, and give it healthy, glowing appearance.

What happens during the treatment?

  • Topical anesthetic is applied for 10 minutes

  • Needle length is selected according to treatment objective

  • A gliding agent is applied to make the procedure easy and to enhance the healing and rejuvenation process. Pin point bleeding may occur.

  • A sterile, single use needle head is used to puncture the skin

  • A hydrating mask is applied right after the treatment

  • Most of the resulting inflammation will diminish within 2-3 days post treatment

  • Minor skin peeling may occur. It usually resolves in a week.

How to prepare for microneedling?

  • Discontinue use of irritating products (retinoids, exfoliants, topical antibiotics) one week prior to microneedling

  • Avoid IPL/Laser treatments for 2 weeks prior your treatment

  • If you are prone to cold sores, take antiviral medication for 2 days prior the treatment and the day of the treatment

  • Avoid blood thinning medications to minimize bruising after microneedling

AFTER-CARE

Redness, minor irritation and swelling are normal within the first few days following the treatment. This is a natural response to the small “injuries” made by the needles in your skin.

  • Avoid strenuous exercises, saunas and steam baths for up to 48 hours after the treatment.

  • Avoid tanning and sun exposure for at least 2 weeks after the treatment

  • Don’t take anti-inflammatory medications such as Advil, Motrin etc. one week after the treatment, unless otherwise necessary. These agents will interfere with the natural healing process that is critical and responsible for your skin's rejuvenation.

  • Use SPF 30 or higher daily.

Day of the procedure: Make up or topical cosmetics should not be applied to the treated areas. Use hyaluronic acid booster, lipid moisturizer and sun screen. You can wash your skin with gentle cleanser.

Day 1: You may wash your face as usual and apply makeup, lotions and other topical products. Stay away from exfoliating products that contain acids. This may cause your skin to lose essential moisture and delay healing. Use sun protection daily.

Day 2-7: Within 2 days following your microneedling procedure, you will notice increased dryness and flaking. This is due to increased turnover of skin cells and is a part of the healing process. Use sun protection and Hyaluronic Acid daily.

Day 7+: Flaking and dryness will be resolved. Most people notice their complexion smoother and more radiant.

3-5 treatments once in 4-6 weeks is recommended for optimal results.
